Fiberglass Cabling Services

Optical fiber is the only way to guarantee long distance connectivity and on-demand bandwidth.

  • Fiberglass cable can be run 5km with Multimode Fiber and 20km with single mode.
  • There are two basic fiber optic sizes, 50mm micron and 62.5mm micron measurements.

There are various termination connectors for optical fiber: ST, SC, and LC. ST is a twist-on connector, SC is a punch on connector, and LC, the most recent version, is also a punch on connector, but with smaller form factor.

Sky Computer Services can rack mount connectors or install a stand alone fiber box (see pic). Fiber transceivers are available to convert fiber signal into Ethernet RJ45, otherwise purchase switches with fiber modules for direct connection. Call for an onsite consultation and quotation.

Fiber Optic Advantages Fiber Optic Disadvantages
  • Immunity from electromagnetic interference and (EMI) radio-frequency interference (RFI).
  • High data transmission rate.
  • Secure means of communications.
  • Difficult to tap optical tube without detection of signal loss.
  • Small diameter and light weight cable.
  • High flexibility – can be installed to support low capacity (low-bit rate) and adjust to high capacity system as requirements expand.
  • Complex network design.
  • Requires in-depth understanding of light distribution characteristics.
  • Splicing requires elaborate equipment and expertise.

Patch Panels

Patch panels are the best method for cable management. Patch panels make it easy for you to add and change connections to your switch. Patch paneling keeps the wires clean and unaffected for the long term. Why just use tips with cables everywhere? Just install a patch panel the right way to terminate your copper cable.

Power over Ethernet (POE)

Sky Computer Services installs POE (power over Ethernet for compliant devices) and wires it to your wireless access points. The importance of strongly wired infrastructure cannot be emphasized enough as a major component of a fast and reliable network

Professional Data Center Designs Available

DOs and DON'Ts of Professional Data Cabling

  • Use fire resistant cable for lowered (t-bar) ceilings
  • Don't run cable within 1' of power sources
  • Don't run cable on florescent lights case
  • Don't stretch cable more then 25 pounds of pressure during installation
  • Don't bend cable more then a 90 degree angle
  • Do not try to split Copper cable over 328 Feet with hubs
  • Do use Fiber Optical Cable for your backbone between switches

Note: Data Cabling that is not installed to code and installed incorrectly may result in unreliable LAN connections, lower bandwidth, slower connections, irregular networking problems and workstation downtime.
